Business modelling of livelihoods value chain (farm produce, goat, vegetables) in Bihar
Partner Organization: IPE Global Ltd
Year: 2018 & 2019
Geography: Bihar (India)
IPE Global was awarded an ICRG (Infrastructure for Climate Resilient Growth) in India programme by DFID.
IPE Global under the ICRG programme mandated Samavit to develop business models for livelihoods value chain for the group of beneficiaries of climate resilient infrastructure developed under MNREGA.
Using the mixed research method, the research team studied the existing livelihoods of the beneficiaries of ICRG and their modus operandi (individual/collectives) within the specific livelihoods value chain. The attempts to identify alternative livelihoods for them were also made. The scope for the value addition within the existing livelihoods value chain (e.g. aggregation of produce, grading, sorting, packaging, sales and marketing) were analyzed. The internal and external environment of the shortlisted livelihoods value were studied, so that informed and critical decisions can be made for shortlisting business models.
The two business models for up to 100 ICRG beneficiaries were suggested – each one for Muzaffarpur and Nalanda.
The final report comprised the detailed observations and findings, opportunity matrix, business models, conclusion and way forward.
