Scaling water credit for safe water access and the dignity of a toilet among the poor India

Together with the Ikea Foundation, Water.org implemented a four-year initiative, from August 2015 – July 2019, to expand program activities and reach an estimated 2.9 million people with safe water and/or sanitation (~300,000 from Indonesia and ~2.6 million from India). The overall purpose of the initiative was to improve people’s lives through the construction of water and
sanitation improvements and hygiene education. 

This initiative also aimed to expand and the role of Samavit was to support Sambodhi as a microfinance expert research agency and provide inputs in the design of research tools related to microfinance as well as share feedback on the final research output/baseline report. MFI-led Water Credit model as well as develop and test new approaches to sustainable water and sanitation solutions. In India, Water.org identified four local microfinance institutions (MFIs) to further develop and scale sustainable financial products that empower those at the base of the pyramid to invest in their own water and sanitation needs. 

To conduct baseline surveys among the program areas of the four MFI partners and a social enterprise. The role of Samavit was to support Sambodhi as a microfinance expert research agency and provide inputs in the design of research tools related to microfinance as well as share feedback on the final research output/baseline report.
